It's unreal. A good bit of the right wingers are making the stand against homosexuality the biggest part of their platform. And some are stating it is the biggest threat to our 'way of life', bigger than, you know, the fact that 40% of Americans have no health insurance and the economy tanks and most of us are one medical crisis away from financial disaster.
I work for several clinics. The one run by Tea Partiers give no benefits, pay me on commission only, cut the staff's hours when things are slow (leading their clients to go elsewhere because they're not bloody *open*) and have the worst morale of any place I've been--ever. God help us if the Tea Partiers get in charge. I had to insist they turn off the talk radio while I was there, claiming it was distracting while I was trying to write notes. It *is* distracting--I was grinding my teeth the entire time I was there.
The want people to fight over morality to avoid a proper discussion about financial care. The Tea Party scares me more than the BNP. The BNP couldn't have a member with a hope of leading the UK, but the Tea Party could get someone in the White House :(
Their front-runner being the coyly-pretending-not-to-run-did-you-forget-I-QUIT-my-job-to-become-a-reality-star Sarah Palin.
I almost hope she becomes the GOP candidate because I think it would improve Obama's chances for re-election. However, the thought that she could actually get elected if that happens scares the crap out of me. :-(
